Yes they do flow on the lean side. I've had several vehicles with Qjets on them, and I always got away with using a bigger Q jet then anything else. That's why I ask about the 800 though, they are pretty rare in comparison. The only way I remember to tell the difference is the primary's on the 800 don't taper off like the lower CFM's do.

A lot of people toss out Qjet's, because they aren't considered a good performance carb, but you can make them work okay with a bit of work.

I'm interested to see how it works out. 800CFM is enough to flood out a smaller V8. You could probably lean out the carb enough to run through rejetting etc.

I've seen a few 4.0 Carb conversions here, but they are all under 400cfm, unless they have heavy engine modification.

Keep us updated on it!

Absolutely, will do. I love the fact that people just throw these aside for a holley or afb, I kick myself in the  :butthead: for doing the same for while. I had a few really good ones at one point, but I listened to all my buddies (dispised qjets, still do, lol), and ditched them in favor of something else, live and learn hahaha. Now I grab all the free quads that I can find 8).

As of now I have the carb set up similar to what a 305 would've had, between the jets/rods/hanger/apt I think this should get me at least in the ball park. I understand the shock of the cfm rating, (I know it sounds crazy  :o ) but, that's what it's capable of, not what it actually does. I run a 800 quad on my Olds 350 from a cadillac 500, I left the primary side completely alone (didn't even touch the apt), but I fattened up the secondaries considerably. At WOT, I'm good, runs great, part throttle cruise I'm a bit lean, I never really addressed this prior because I didn't have the parts to do so (but now I do  8)). So granted that's like comparing apples to oranges, but if you were to look at volume alone, we're only talking 63ci, where as the caddy vs Olds is 150ci. If anything, I'm thinking Ill be lean right off the bat. Time will tell, I should be able to fire this thing this weekend  ;D.

Little update, As of Sunday, 5:30 pm, It's ALIIIIIVE!!! Bwahahahahaha!! I have a running/moving quadrajet equipped 4.0 and an AW4! hahaha. It actually runs pretty decent, a little on the rich side, but not bad enough to spew black smoke and/or load up :D. It fought me for a little while for the first fire, I screwed around for a while with timing and then thought maybe I had it 180 out (it backfired though the carb a few times). That did nothing for me, so back to where I had it, finally I decided to swap out the ignition module (happened to have a spare laying around), that fixed it, lol. I tinkered around with it for a while, runs decent, idles smooth, great throttle response. Maybe if I get the tps situation sorted out I can take this thing for a test drive and see what it'll do!

Shaggimo, I recommend running a ceramic regulator to the power wire running to your HEI.  They are under $10 and will make sure you don't cook anything.

Wouldn't that careate a voltage drop though? Or am I not thinking right? lol
I know the type you mean, the jeep has one mounted on the oposite inner fender. I'm told that one is for the fuel pump.

My understanding mind you is that a 12V regulator will provide a constant 12V, not 14, not 12.5, etc.  The excess is burned off as heat.

That's just how I have always done it after hearing of HEI's frying after 3 months of use.  I've never had one cook, even the cheao-o-chineese ones.

Thanks! Yup i did get it sorted out last night, lol, little change in wher my linkage hooked to, and it's right on  ;D.

So the bracket's all made up painted and ready for install tonight. I'd say I'd take it for a test drive (yes it's "on the road" legally already, lol), but a spring on the garage door broke, so as of now the jeep is trapped in the barn  :rotfl: . Unless maybe we'll have the new spring tonight, that would be nice  ;D.

GRONK: Makes me wonder if gm used  resistor wire or not, Ive never burned up a module in my car, well, not in almost 12 years anyway, lol. If I have time, I may hop on Mitchell about that, but what you say makes perfect sense to me.

using the ceramic regulator will also allow you to run your HEI directly off of the starter solenoid RUN position.  I've always used it as insurance and have never had any issues.  You read all the time about HEI's burning up.
