Not a whole lot to report, been keeping busy with minor details, getting all the wiring loomed up, accessories working, fenders bolted on (were just mock fitted), seams sealed, engine put back together, etc, etc, etc. Once I had the intake bolted to the engine, I ran into another snag, the original injected intake had mounts for the power steering pump to bolt to, the offy, not so, lol, at least not the same. I spent a night or so planning out and making a solution, in other words an adapter bracket.
What started out as a flat chuck of 3/16 plate.
mock up to intake with pump
Ready to go!
Next on the agenda, the carb......I called up a friend of mine who hates them (carbs), he wanted his old ones off his bench, so I got a bunch of carbs to pick a part. Took a bit of time to dig them all out, but 10 parts carbs....Giggity. lol Once I got them all home and identified, I was able to pick my victim, 1980 chevy truck 800cfm quadrajet
.
The pile!
The winner!
Cracked it open to find it was pretty gummed up and nasty, found a few other issues with it, but for the most part the carb was in good shape. I let it soak in carb dip for about 9 hours, then started my rebuild. I got lucky enough to have gotten a throttle plate that did not need to be bushed, so that was a big plus.
A mod to prevent leakage, little epoxy over the caps just as an insurance policy as they are noted for leaking.
Ran into a snag when I got to this point, I went to put on the airhorn, and realized the Olds configured one I chose to use was not quite the same as the chevy body I was using. So that put me back a night, lol. I was able to salvage the chev horn with a little extra work so no big deal, it's all together now,

There you have it, The Rochester Quadrajet, the carb that everyone loves
to hate Here we are mocked up to the engine, I'm in process of making my attachment brackets (fuel pressure regulator, throttle cable, trans cable, and tps). It seems likely I'll have to make my own air cleaner too, as hood clearance appears a little tight, hahaha I'm hoping I may be able to squeak a GM tbi hose intake type on there, we shall see....
