That's a pretty cool transformation from what it was.  I've gotta do something like this to my Jeep.  But mine is so rusty...  :(

They're getting difficult to find in rust free form in the salt belt, which is why I couldn't let this jeep go to the scrapper, even though it's pretty battered, lol.

Those would be acual AMC pieces and not too easy to come by, but I believe I know where there is a set that i could get for ya.  Every time I am at that yard the old man keeps saying "you should get these babys to flashen up your cherokee"  my responce "chrome don't get you home"

lol funny you mention that, I wasn't going to use them (same deal I can't stand cheesy chrome). My original plan was to use the ones from my 97, but then when removed one of the chrome ones, it about fell out of my hand, lol. I didn't realize they were metal, I figured they were cheesy plastic like all the others. So that's my reasoning for the chrome handles, lol. Anyway, lol, let me know a round about price for a pair, thanks.

it's probly gonna be about 2 weeks till i can get to the yard again, i am currently on the quest to find the stock rear tire carrier cause i hate having my spare where i haul the groceries (the fat kid in me calculates 4 more bags will fit where the tire sits now) and when i get the big rubber on the jeep it isn't gonna fit (the reasoning i tell the wife i need it)

lol  :rotfl:, no hurry, I still don't have my engine out of the other cherokee yet, hahaha. It's amazing what we can sneak by our significant others with a little word twisting here and there, not lying, just twisting a want into a need  ;) (my gf is very good at doing this to me as well, haha).

*I did find a distributor though...... ;D

Now for an intake, Gronk: did you get my pm?

Got it.  I have a Clifford and an Offy intake.  Neither are heated intakes.  I don't know that I've seen a Cliff/Offy w/ water jackets.  Have you thought about a stock 258 intake?  I get $175 for the intakes locally.  I can do that and ship for free.

Well my original plan involved a mc2100 (I obtained one a while back), which I could get an intake from my local yard, but........My plan has changed a bit, now I'm going with a Q-jet, lol (I may be recieving the mother load stash soon  >:D). I know, odd choice, but I'm fluent with them and they work great on small cube engines (IE 4.1 and 4.3 GM V6), so in order to get the full benefit of it, the 4bbl intake is prefered.

Offy part# 6257DP is the water heated/cooled intake if you want to check it out. If you had one of these I would definitly jump on it for $175  :o great price!!

I'll think on the non heated, I'm just leary on the winter usage this will see, I've heard mixed opinions about drivability.

The weekend of the 17th-18th I removed the engine from the ole bomb, the  :censored: had to fight me the whole time, but I got it, hahaha.

So over the week I tore it down cleaned it up, gave it a re seal, and got it all ready for paint.

Saturday started my paint work, now who can id this color?  ;D

Sunday rolled around, and I was feeling ambitious, in went the engine!

Gotta love the high proprod hole on these, hood removal not necessary, lol.

Still much wiring to do, but making progress, also installed the firewall mat, chassis harness, power brake unit, and HVAC box, still plugging away.

Nice job, I really mean that! Love seeing cleaned up engines looking like new. What did you clean it up with and what was your process? Lots of scrubbing or just a power wash?

Thanks rohn! Well this thing was very nasty, it was out my trail rig/dd that saw no cleaning, hahaha. First what I did, was soak the whole engine with purple power (I covered the vitals, generator, throttle body, and distributor), let it soak for about 20 minutes, then soaked it again. After it sat about ten minutes or so I pressure washed the heck out of it. Then soaked it in purple power again, got out my wire scrub brush, and scrubbed the heck out of it, then rinsed. I removed the accessories (altermator, p/s pump/ starter etc) and went around with a putty knife after it was dry to scrape any scale, bad paint, and stray grime that was left. It got yet another purple power bath, then rinsed. After it was all dry, it got a brake cleaner bath to remove any film that may have been left by the perple power. Regasketed, resealed, and wiped down with reducer prior to primer. Yes very time consuming, lol, but the end results are nice.

Thanks! Well for starters, I applied penetrol to the whole floor, wheelwells, and inner quarters. I buried that in undercoating, then rolled the floor and wells with thick coats of implement paint (black). No carpet, as all these kee's were notorious leakers, so, having no rug lets the floor dry out and not rot away. The rest of the interior will be there, I have my black door panels and my black plaid seats from my first cherokee (1987) that have found their way into every jeep I've had, lol. I thought about taking the steering wheel back from my malibu (black CJ7 slotted spoke wheel  :amc: Jeep logo center cap), but it fits the theme of that car too well  8), so stock cherokee wheel it is. I'll be SEM spraying the rest of the 88's gray interior to match. For now though since I'm tight budgeted and strapped for time, I'll be running around with just a dash board, door panels, belts, and seats  :rotfl:. That's pretty normal for me though, the sx/4 is pretty much the same way at the moment, lol.

So yesterday my new intake arrived  ;D Stoked.

Got home last night and was all excited to be able to put on the new intake, ground my notches for the locating pins (I knew about that, lol), then when I went to put the intake on my mock up head It wouldn't fit, f#$@ #$%# &&$^ &$^^!!!! Being I'm running an aftermarket redesigned header, the #6 primary tube was almost completely in the way of the intake runner, I was  :angry4: . So after a little while of thinking and drinking, I came up with my solution, which happens to be the same solution as I always use, sawzall + grinder + welder + Beer = parts that fit, hahaha.

as you can see, the primary ran directly into the intake runner, this is after a little cutting, some heating and bending the primary tube down out of the way.

This is the point where I realized, yup I'm committed to doing this, hahaha

Now all welded back up, mock fitted to my spare head, and tonight goes the install on the jeep!

Final verdict, Offenhauser says their intake is NOT intended for use on a 4.0L head.  ::)
