Sweet! These pictures will come in handy when I have to do my inner rocker panels. Now I just need to learn how to weld  ;)

Rust killer paint...

The first part is welded.

And the next one is waiting.

WOW juhap! It's amazing how closely this whole page resembles EXACTLY what I want to do and what needs to be done on my SX/4. I was planning on putting some good rust killer paint on the frame in the same area, and you cut your floors and rockers in almost all the same places as mine were cut a while ago. Very nice job!!!

May I ask what gauge sheet metal you used and what tools you used to shape it? This is a very large and important part of my project that still must be done.

"May I ask what gauge sheet metal you used and what tools you used to shape it?"

Yes you may...

I´m using 1 mm (19 gauge) galvanized sheet metal. Just because I want to be sure that I don´t have to do this never again.

My tools are very simple. Just angle grinder, shears, sheet metal folder, planishing hammer, and so on... And then there is a sheet metal roller that I can use.

I wish that some day I had an english wheel or a planishing hammer and all those professional tools. They are too expensive for me to buy, but some sunny day... Win lottery...

I bought a few sheets of 16 gauge to do mine with. It's pretty thick, but I've seen a lot of people online go with 16 and it should be plenty strong. Hopefully it's not too difficult to weld.

Another project of mine might be to build a sufficient sheet metal brake to bend it all with. Doesn't need to be perfect, so I'd rather not spend like $300 for a small one new. Everything will get thorough rust protection on mine when it's finished as well, because that's the last thing I want to worry about.

Thanks for the info!

Come to MO! :)

Thanks, but no thanks. I´d prefer finnish Route 66. I´m living 50 meters (55 yards) from it. "Get your gigs on route 66"...
Finnish 66 goes from Orivesi to Lapua, and I live in small town called Ruovesi. Although I was born in town called Kotka, Eagle in finnish...

You can send me a couple of SX/4´s and Sundancers instead.  :rotfl:

The US Route 66 is quite nice and if you take it beginning to end you'll go through just about every variance of land in the US.

If I had an SX/4 or Sundancer it surely wouldn't be shipped to Finland! :)

My '80 Wagon is gonna need a lot of work...and the stuff you are doing I don't have the time/patience for...so it will most likely be sold as soon as possible.

Today I did some welding job... and then I began to remove rest of that rusty sheet metal. It was a very hard job to do. It took several hours and I had to use all my imagination to get rid of it all... I hope that I had a plasma cutter.

Looks great Juhap !! I wish I had kept my 4' box and pan brake when I got out of the buisness of sheetmetal, but I didn't. :( .
Those sheetmetal screws work great for you it looks like. I have some of those ones we call "steelies" for putting hanger strap on I beams , they screw through up to 1/4" plate.
It really looks awesome, what a great effort and results to saveing this one.

juhap

Spent some hours in my garage and this is the result... welded and painted.
