Ok, thanks everyone for checking this out, you're a big help! I just sent him an email and told him how I feel about the rust issues. I told him it was worth only about $300 as a parts car, but I offered $500 even though I probably shouldn't have ::)

I doubt he will accept the offer because he probably put more money into it than that, but we'll see. If I do get it, it wouldn't be a daily driver but more of a project.

I dunno if I would even classify it as a "project car" there is ALOT of work there.  The problem with some people is they watch shows like "barret Jackson" or "barn finds" on TV and instantly think that their 30 year old car is worth a pile of money.  The sad thing is you very rarely get as much out of a car as you put into it

X2.  Totally true.  I couldn't have said that better myself.   I see this all the time, and people just aren't being realistic about what the car is worth.

Keep looking, and hopefully you'll find something in better shape, and realistically priced.

I will have some in a few days, all I have is before and progress pictures.  I work on it alot in the evening (no shade trees where I work) so it is always too dark to take a good picture

The owner does not want to go under $1000 because he can part it out for more than that (which he would rather not do because it's still a decent car). He says it is solid despite the rust and it's his 6th Eagle, the only one he decided to keep.

If I can get like 4 or 5 years out of it I would be satisfied, which is why I don't know that rust is a total deal-breaker. Like I said, I'm not in desperate need of a daily driver as I don't commute, and I would treat this car like my baby. If, after those years that I get to enjoy it, the car needs replaced, then I would part it out and probably make more than half my investment back. I have a junk car right now that I've been offered $300 scrap for, and with all the parts that are needed from these SX/4s, I'm sure I could find people interested in buying them.

If I maintain the underside of the car, taking a wire brush/wheel to it, regularly spraying WD-40, and possibly giving it a quick spray paintjob, do you think this could last me a couple years? If so, I may buy it.

I saw where the air cleaner was missing, maybe he pulled the breather or PCV valve with it? What about why is it on a jack/stands? Does he have the missing R/F end cap? Those are rare. I personally feel $1,000.00 is too much for what I saw.

He said it was on the stands because he was going to take better pictures of it for me. It does have all the end caps, and the air filter was taken off so he could start up the car better. It has been sitting for a while and he wanted to make sure it would start.

I don't think he knows how to take better pictures...    ;)

Realize that rust is kinda like an iceberg.  Looks not too bad at first, but there's always allot more under the surface.

But, this is totally your decision.  If you want to buy this car for that price, then that's for you to decide.

allot of people here have been thru good deals and bad.  we've gotten good cars and bad.  All we want to do here is help you make a good choice that works for you.

If this works for you, then so be it.

I understand that and I appreciate all the input from everyone. The best way I can see the actual condition of the car is to take a look at it in person, so I'm going to check it out on Wednesday. I'll keep you posted.
