It would work to make it run, but not in 4x4. You could leave the front axle off to speed up the installation.
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

Just back.
Thanks for the responses.
They're pulling the head now in case the rings didn't roll, but not likely.

Going to re-read everything and see what can be found.
Apparently it's only 300 miles to Denver from here.

Impression: If I can find a good block, seems like the time to put a 4.0 HO head on, along with new timing belt.

Man, if I closer, I would do what I could to help out. Good luck. Have you posted on any other forum, like the AMC Forum?

No. Just posted here.
A little over whelmed looking after things.
Using a loaner car, I managed 16.5 hour run to Fernley NV, including 1.5 hour nap. Did what I needed there (pickup supplies shipped there for camping that didn't take place), rested, just returned (didn't do the return in one run).

I can get a 1993 Grand Cherokee locally with a 4.0.
240k miles on the car, with 130K miles on a rebuilt engine.
Will this engine fit?
From what I can find online, it should have a 7120 head.

Canoe

Head gasket blown between #4 & 5.
#6 washed clean, with some play.
#1 has more play.
Electrode for spark plug #5 is missing, but no sign of any damage from it bouncing around inside...

Sorry to hear about your canceled camoing trip. You drove right past me in Elko, NV. I'm here for work but leaving today. I've seen 5 Eagles in this town. In my opinion a Grand Cherokee would struggle to pull the Eagle to NY. Plus don't you have a utility trailer with you? If you're talking about installing the engine, a typical shop may not want to get involved in the little things that are necessary for the swap. I'll post on the AMC forum for you.

Thanks,
I was thinking of using the Grand Jerokee and towing the Eagle and abondoning the trailer.

My head is 1/2", not 7/16". I thought '86 blocks were 7/16"?
Maybe this isn't the original engine in this Eagle.

Just a thought, Brandon (83 Eagle!) is trying to sell his car.  He is near Omaha.  His car has a hitch, and would work for flat towing another Eagle.
