Anyone running 95 Cherokee Limited wheels?
« on: October 22, 2011, 01:24:02 PM »
I was just curious if these would fit? I think they would look pretty cool on my woody.

I can't seem to copy paste in my browser on my phone, but they are 15in rooms with a 5x4.5 pattern I believe. They have multiple spokes and some have a gills color to them.

I think you're talking about these rims. They have a smaller backspacing than any other Cherokee rim. I ruined a tire because it rubbed against my leaf springs before I realized it. I now run a 2 inch spacer and a 1.5" spacer in the front with these rims. Here is a picture of my spacer, what it looks like with the spacer on, and how I tighten the spacers without a driveshaft to keep the wheels from spinning.

The 2wd XJ/MJ rims are skinny like the Eagles.
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

I have those wheels without the color.  I havent had any problems, although I did add 1" spacers in the back to make the width the same as the front.  It also allows me to have the center caps on the back wheels.

Why did you need spacers in the back? Are Eagle wheels spaced differently from front to back?

Yes it was done for stability. Like a pitbull.

Does this mean when doing tire rotations with stock wheels we shouldn't be switching up front and back wheels?

No, the wheels are all the same.  No worries on the rotation, rotate normally.

Then I'm confused still on why I would need spacers in the back to run these wheels?

Thanks Peter. After reading it again I understand. His setup is now not stock. So running these wheels without spacers should work fine. I might pick up a set locally for cheap. Vangremlin, what tie size did you end up putting on yours?

I ran it without the spacers for 2+ years without a problem, except you can't put the center caps on the back wheels because the hub (or whatever its called) sticks out too far.  I like the looks much better with the spacers, and I even think it handles better.

I have 205/70 15 on there, because that's what I could find used when i was looking for tires.  I'm looking to go bigger with my next set.

Yup, I've noticed that as well.  I can get the center caps on the front, but I can't get 'em on the back rims.

What do you think would be a good fit without rubbing?

I think I could do 215/75's without a problem.  But I think 225/75 would rub.  But then again I haven't replaced my springs so its sagging a bit.
