what a BAD day!! oil pan is not in, in fact the old one isn't off yet because of those wonderful axle mount bolts.  Took a small break to head out to the sanctuary and get a part for a fellow nester and low and behold the van acted up again (looks like the fuel filter wasn't the issue, time to march onward with a new fuel pump). I think I got the right socket I need to finish the oil pan and i hope that tomarrow goes 1000% better than today because I NEED the eagle back on the road

Good luck with that fuel pump Bill, it really did sound identical to the issue I had with my Dodge ( still a chrysler product ). Do you have a fuel pressure gauge or some kind of gauge you can screw into the fuel rail ??That's how I narrowed mine down , when it started running like you told me over the phone, I checked the pressure and sure enough it was way down.I actually nursed mine along I think for over a year like that, with the fill up trick, and sometimes havning to wait for it to cool down.RM at it's worse I guess,lol.Why is there a special socket for the oil pan ?? Or are you talking the axle mount bolts ?? Anyways Good luck with it,-12 here tonight and more snow midweek !

I think you are right on the money with the van and the fuel pump, we drove it around town here for 3 weeks after replacing the filter and i guess i got too confident in the repair.  We made it 30 miles before it acted up.  After sitting for about 2 hours it started right up and made it 10 miles towards home and quit again (then we had to tow it).  this morning my wife took it to work (with the sockets I bought for the axle mount on the eagle still inside it).  She just called and said that it ran good this morning but the check engine light is on again (codes are saying random misfire, and misfire on cyl 6).  Once i get my sockets here for that axle mount (the one directly under the manafold) we should have the eagle going again,  My plain is to just work on it until I am finished even if that means I am at the garage all night long

Yeah, I got away several times when the gas was down to say 1/2 tank, and I had been pushing it on the highway at 70 or so for an hour or so.I would fill it up, and seems the cold gas would cool the pump down and be good for awhile.AT $300 for the pump, and the easiest way to change it was pulling off the truck bed...........it stayed that way till I blew the tranny out of it on my way to pick up a 401 in Virginia !!The 401 dissasembled fit nicely in my Camry , and got it home.

I priced the new pump for the van at 150 bucks, since we had the tank dang near out when we replaced the fuel filter it shouldn't be too bad of a job.  knowing my luck though after I putthe pump in it the injectors will foul up and go out on me

about 2 hours ago the old oil pan was out .... since then we have been tring to get the new pan on, my prediction of being in the garage all night long is looking to come true.  After dinner we are going back over to get that  oil pan on the car ..... 2 inches of room is all we need and i am just not getting it

you'll need to lift the engine higher to get the pan back on... Don't ask me why, I'm not sure but for some reason putting the pan back on requires just a bit more clearance. last oilpan job I did on an Eagle I had the engine lifted high enough that I could almost sit up and work on it. Just lift the &*% a good foot up off the dogbone, and save yourself some headache.

Well, I wish things could be ALOT more easier, we tried and tried to get the engine up high enough to get the dang oil pain to slide in but ended up having to cut our losses and pull the engine. As of 4AM this morning the engine is out of the car, by 5 AM the new oil pan was on and we decided to take a break, get some sleep, and are on our way back over shortly to clean off the engine and reinstall.  the only casualties where the fuel return line and the fuel return line vent (with as tired as we where i am surprized that's the only thing we missed)

little bit of an update here, engine is back in, hoses and wires hooked up, all that is left are a few little odds and ends like the torque converter bolts not lining up.  So far the tally on hours for just the oil pan gasket is right around 41 hours in 3 days, I will admit though I jinxed the whole deal when i said out loud "this should be done and over in about 4 hours"

Did ya put the new ( used) tranny in while you were at it ?? Or is it the one that was in there and just not lineing up ?
