The second rarest of all Concords, the 1979 2DR Concord Liftback:  2,331.  In the previous year, 1978, the car was called a hatchback and was available as a more traditional styled model with 2,572 produced and the AMX version with 2,540 produced.  the rarest Concord was the 1983 wagon with only 867 built.

Base Prices.  The figure after the slash is the V8 equipped car base price; Concords came with 232 I-6 engines, 258's were $50 more and if you really wanted an I-4 it was the same price as a 232 car:

Interesting that the two door was produced in greater numbers than the four door.  Usually the four door is the "bread and butter" and it far outsells its two door equivalent.

The rarest Concord was the 1983 wagon with only 867 built.

I wish I had known that about a year ago.  One of those 867 was in my local yard.  Unfortunately it wasn't hard to see why it was in there - the front end looked like it had been introduced to a brick wall at high speed.  Had I known of its extreme rarity, I would have at least saved the VIN and door tag for historical purposes.

It was a nice one, too... white with woodgrain, brown interior, sport steering wheel, AM/FM cassette, air, tilt, cruise, power windows and locks.  Many of its rarer parts found their way home with me.

I found the '79 numbers interesting too.  My thinking is that the two door models attracted a lot of younger first time buyers.  Usually, the wagon was a better seller too.

My '79 Concord sat low in the back when I got it in 2008.  Then one day I noticed it was suddenly really low.  I looked under it and one of the leaf springs had actually broken, and the other looked to be soon to follow with the extra weight it was now handling.  This was a low mileage car, too.  It's now with a new owner who has taken care of the problem.

Conversely, the '80 Concord I got out of the junkyard sits high in the back.  So much so, that I opted to put larger tires back there (215-70-14) to fill the wheelwells better.  This is an even lower mileage car, but I have to wonder if those springs were replaced at some point.

IIRC the '80 may be a fleet car?  Which may have had heavier springs??
