Not sure what happened to my post about trains... maybe it didn't go through...

Anyways, Galesburg has one of the largest train yards in the world. And trains from Chicago to Galesburg are pretty cheap especially if you catch them early. In fact, the train depo is less than a mile from my house.

Check Amtrak

You certainly are correct about the trains in Galesburg. So much for me knowing about what I say. I just received a travel packet from Galesburg about lodging and other info. Your city looks to be a vibrant and interesting place to visit. Hopefully I will be there in August. :)

I checked Amtrak. It seems to be the best choice. And travel time from Chicago is less than 3 hours and price is better than Greyhound. Thank you for advice.

That is great, considering AMTRAK routes in the midwest and west are scarce.  I wish they would get service onto the UP lines -- lines that actually go some where.

LOL! yeah the trains are fine and dandy till you live in a town where you get stopped by them at least twice a day... Here in Galesburg, we all know the "other" way around the trains, but some destinations cross track no matter what... and its always when your already running behind schedule. eaglemailman  said it looks like we have a vibrant town.... never judge a book by it's cover, lol! I am an active member of the community and I try to help when I can with local organizations... but I' not sure I can honestly say it's vibrant, lol! But hey, I'm sure we have it better than others.

The trains are very annoying. The tracks never stay "smooth" longer than a few months... in this area, getting a tune up involves new ball joints. (shocks/struts etc)

We have so many historic homes, but most of them have been stripped down and turned into "budget" apartments. Alot of history here though... home and birthplace of Carl Sandburg and the dude that played Superman in the old black and white show. Wyatt Earp was born in Monmouth. We have some big colleges here... Monmouth College and Knox College. One of the last Lincoln/Douglas debates were held here (something like that anyways, I apologize for not paying attention... I cant afford it, lol) There was a book published in the 90's of the world most haunted cities... Galesburg was like number 7 or something. Again not sure of accuracy. We have an awesome music scene here too.

The best part is we have a church and a bar on every corner, LOL!!!

I may have just booked a celebrity to show up too... some of you may know him, some of you may not. I'll give you one hint and one hint only until I know 100% that he will be here...

Ray Liota played the part of this real life person.

Anyways, he's very cool and very down to earth and said he was interested in showing up!

Go ahead... gossip!

LOL! You guys are crackin me up! I just got a phone call from him yesterday... He says he plans on attending, but his schedule changes all the time and he does not want to commit to anything and let us down. He say's there is a good chance of him making it, but that he can't let me know until it gets closer to the date. They said at the very least, he would let me know two weeks in advance, but hopefully sooner.

Anyways, the guys isn't the greatest role model in the world... but I don't anyone ever suggested so, lol! BUT, he has mellowed out since his early days and written a few books. He's really coming up to see my band, but I thought it would be a great time to have him up during the car show since his fiance' loves classic cars. Plus, it's better exposure for all of us. It brings more people to the cruise night, which bings more exposure to the radio station and my band, which brings more exposure to Eaglenest, which brings more exposure to our guest. It helps everybody out at the same time!

Why would he some to see my band? Have I told anyone what the name of my band is?

Has anyone ever seen the movie "Goodfellas"?

Discuss.

That is a great movie.  Henry Hill actually operated a restaurant in North Platte Nebraska until 2006.  Nice Celebrity apprearance.

Well fellas, I think I am going to have to insist that I help Doug get his Eagle back on the road sometime this spring to be able to get my EagleNest meet fix for this year (Are you listening Doug??).  Unfortunately, my praying that the meet would not be scheduled the weekend that it is did not pay off.  :(

I will be leading a mission trip for the Junior High youth in my Youth Group at the Church to Kansas City August 9th thru the 13th.  That is the Sunday that is the end of the Eagle Nest Meet.  There is no other time that I can reschedule the mission trip to in order to be able to make the meet.   :'(  I am sure you all can understand the concept of sticking to your word.

I will be at the Meet in spirit.  Well, I guess I can use the money I am saving to upgrade the Eagle (and take my wife to a Bed and Breakfast for a weekend  ;D).

My wife has to take vacation anytime I am gone during the week for stuff.  I am already burning a week of her vacation for the Senior High Trip as well as 3-4 days for the Junior High Trip it is not fair to her to ask for a couple more days for the meet.  Besides knowing my luck the Eagle would crap out and strand me when I need to get back for the Mission Trip.

That is sad news my friend. I was really looking forward to hanging out with you again. Maybe the two of us can get together at a different time just after the meet on a weekend. Meet halfway and have lunch... be a good excuse to stretch the legs one last time before winter hits again. I'll be sure to get plenty of pictures and video of the event and I'll bring ya copies of everything!

As per your IM... you bet! It won't be a problem at all!

Sounds great Chas.  I appreciate it.  PM me your address when you get a chance.  I will still follow this thread and hope for the best.  Where would halfway be between the Omaha Metro Area and your neck of the woods.  Hmmm...
