I was thinking about doing the HEI swap. Sure would be a tad more reliable and cleaner looking than the duraspark setup!

Quote from: SlickEagle on August 20, 2025, 04:25:26 PMWell it certainly has been awhile since I've posted here but that doesn't mean I have halted on my 82 eagle I picked up last October. It's been a long journey but she's almost ready to be a daily driver again.

Had the whole brake system redone with lines, master cylinder, calipers, etc. I got the 258 all dialed in and running  great (till the throttle shaft seals gave out). New CV boot installed with new grease, and a new headliner replaced. Swapped out the hideous mustard yellow rims with some 78 Thunderbird turbines with new rubber.

Tried to daily it around town for a couple days till the new fuel pump died on me (gotta love new parts).

Now I'm at the point of doing cosmetics, suspension rebuild, seal replacements, and possibly swapping the carter for a motorcraft 2100.

Never had any major issues thankfully, Especially with a 200k mile 80s car. Just typical work out components that need attention. :)

The Motorcraft carb is well worth it. I highly  recommend adding a GM style HEI distributor too.

Went there today (my nephew shops there) to get a transfer case for my wagon. He took these for me.

Inside Your Eagle / Re: Head liner trim removal?
Last post by Jawbone1021 - August 20, 2025, 03:15:11 PM
When I replaced my headliner I just stuck a flathead screwdriver behind the pad right before the metal lip and slid it along until that side of the pad was out from behind the trim. Then I just lifted the pad out at an angle from the outlet side and pulled it out the tailgate. Probably not the best method but it worked for me

Quote from: maddog on August 17, 2025, 08:00:26 PMI would love to find one of those bumper filler pieces myself, but unfortunately those are made of unobtainium.
And of course the 1980 units are slightly different from 1981 to '88 so they're even harder to find

Quote from: Still Pat on August 19, 2025, 03:06:44 PMI have an '83 w/a 258/auto. & switched - NOT 'On the fly'. It JUST 5h1trolet the bed & I need another one. I have located one out of a Kammback 4 banger, 4 speed. Is it an acceptable replacement? I forgot to ask what year Kammback. The one I had was full-time 4 WD. NO switch ('81).

If the Kammback has the ability to be shifted, they both should be the NP229, so yes, it will work. Even if it isn't a shift on the fly case, it would probably work, the CAD on the front axle would just need to be locked in. A later transfer case (85 and newer) should work too (86 had an NP128 that was one year only, but it would still work), those ones were only shift on the fly because the CAD in the front axle was discontinued.

Just to clarify the Eagles never had a NP229, those were found in the Grand Wagoneers. The Eagles had the NP129. (Same shell as the NP229 but without low range)

That's by bad, I fat fingered it
