CV half shaft bolts-allen heads
« on: December 01, 2024, 04:14:37 PM »
Working on 81 SW, passenger cv half shaft axle replace. The Allen head bolts (6) are seized up w age, going to try some MAPP gas torching. They seem to be M10 size head, but 1/4" Allen wrench fits best. Hdwe store M10 bolts are 8mm...hmmm. Will Mapp gas bbe enough? Thanks

I bet that the Map gas torch will be enough, but without seeing it, its hard to say for sure. Have you hit it with penetrating oil too?

Yessir, thanks for help. Heating up caused most of the original Ziebart undercoating to flash off. Able to ascertain bolt heads were T50's( tho I got first bolt loose w a 7mm allen). Got new axle on and no more "clicking". Now on to rear driver side blown brake line.. .
