1980 Eagle background. Previous owner put a 1988 jeep Cherokee 4.0 bottom end with original 1980 4.2 head and carb on top.

Jeep Alternator not charging battery. (Replaced alternator with new alternator) This is what was on there - (Denso 121000-3450, 12volt, 90amp, ER Regulator) (See pic)

Battery fully charged
Battery to engine ground checked
Battery terminal +/- terminal connections to battery checked
Starting solenoid connection checked
Starter Solenoid Red wire connected to Alternator checked
Alternator Black wire to engine ground checked
The alternator light does not come on when ignition is turned on. ( Checked Alt bulb in cluster and the bulb is good)

The two Jeep Alt. field wires are 1. Green and 2. Green w/ Orange strip and Black ground (see pic)
Green w/Orange strip wire was connected to an after market volt meter inside car.
Green wire is connected to AMC Orange w/Black strip wire which goes to starter solenoid (see pic) The AMC wire also has a Red wire with nothing connected to it? (See pic)

I feel that the two field wire are not connected correct?

Any advise would help.

Thanks
Pierre

Well I have tried every thing I know and found by reading past links and reviewing both amc and jeep wiring schematics. I got the alternator light to come on when turning on the ignition but it stays on after starting and the alternator is not charging the battery.

From what I have read it looks like the engine swap should have included the donor wiring harness and computer as well?

Thanks.

What a beauty!!
You should try to find a technician/mechanic to look at it.
It probably isn't too serious if they had it charging at one time.
I would love to have an '80 Eagle. They were/are all wheel drive.

You need to install an external voltage regulator since the Jeep's computer handled that before. There is info on the net on how to do it.

That is my final option to try. I have read both Jeep and AMC manuals including the wiring schematics and have come to the same conclusion.
Thanks.

SUCCESS :)

I purchased and installed the; (ERCK - External Voltage Regulator Kit, Chrysler Dodge Jeep Alternators, Heavy Duty Regulator) from (National Quick Start Sales) and the battery is now charging as it should.

Thanks eaglefreek for your feedback and confirmation on how to resolve my issue.

That's fantastic. I'm glad you didn't give up. That's a beautiful Eagle.
