New guy here! Just bought an 87 eagle wagon!
« on: November 10, 2015, 11:20:17 AM »
I just purchased a 1987 eagle wagon. Seems to run and drive good and everything works, even the power windows and cruise control. I've had several other jeeps in the past but always wanted an eagle. I love it so far, but how exactly does the 4x4 system work on one? Does the 4wd not engage until a tire spins??

If all of your vacuum lines are correct and working you will have 4wd when you flip the switch . It wont feel like a jeep because the of viscous coupling in the transfer case .You wont really notice until need it .

I just tried it out in the gravel and you can definitely tell when the 4x4 is engaged. In the process now of installing a set of black 17" crown vic interceptor wheels. Plan to lift it 2", add some 30" all terrains, roof basket, and eventually paint it charcoal gray metallic and black

When I went to install some crown vic/grand marquis wheels on my Eagle, I learned the center bore on the Ford wheels was a few millimeters too small and I could never get them fully seated.  It felt like they were, but then they would move around on me while driving.  I had to take it to a machine shop and have the holes made ever so slightly larger.

Yeah I found that out pretty quick haha. Nothing an air grinder and a burr bit didn't take care of. But then the tires were rubbing the upper a arms, so I had to trim them as well
