Emission Systerm Pictures Needed 1983 SX/4
« on: October 05, 2015, 12:46:17 PM »
I'm working on getting my son's newly purchased 1983 SX/4 ready for PA inspection. The car has been converted to a Weber carb. Inspection will require a visual check. I will need to try and make the engine compartment look as stock as possible. Close up pictures of the engine compartment would help me immensly. Thanks in advance.

2.5L (GM or AMC?) or 4.2L motor?
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

You might look at these and pick the one that closely fits your application. http://amceaglesden.com/guide/Diagram_Section#Concord.2FSpirit_Vacuum_Line_Routing

Thanks rmick. I'm a rookie on this site and I'm still learning the ropes.

I made a trip to the local junk yard today and managed to find a charcoal canister on an old Jeep XJ. My SX/4 doesn't have a canister. It looks as though it should be attached in front of the driver side shock tower. If somebody has a pic of the factory mounting location I would appreciate it if you could show me where it is located.

Scroll down through this. Some more emission photos. http://amceaglesden.com/guide/Group_4_Fuel_--_Exhaust_--_Emission The canister is mounted on the left inner fender / shock tower area.

Thanks for that link rmick. That's very helpful. Things are slowly coming together. I still need an air cleaner and PAIR components.

I am posting here to avoid hi-jacking the other thread:

One thing I can warn you about if you actually plan to utilize that charcoal can.  Using a vac pump, make sure the purge signal valve holds a vacuum.  Also make sure the Manifold/PCV port holds it as well (it actually may not, but should).  The purge diaphragms can fail and give you a vacuum leak at the PCV/Manifold port.  I've installed an external purge valve on both my Eagles and it's worked great.

Where in PA are you?  It's possible I could give you a hand if needed.  I'm in Johnstown.
