I was reading some of the past forum posts and I'm fairly sure my thumping/vibration etc, is a shot transmission mount.  As I saw in the responses, and by investigating online...it appears the mount for the manual transmission is really easy to find...the one for the auto...not so much.  How much modification needs to be done to the mount for the manual to make it work for the auto?  Is there a place where an auto transmission mount can be sourced?  I've got an '84 Eagle Limited Wagon.  Thanks in advance for any thoughts?

You need to file the holes slightly to match on the trans from what I've been told. I had a good used one so I didn't get around to trying the MORE bombproof trans mount for XJs, but I think it would require dropping the crossbar 1/2" or so to fit the height in. I also looked at an Anchor mount picture catalog and found one that was a possibility but haven't got the number anymore.

The manual mounts have 4 studs welded in where the open holes would be on the automatic version.   You just have to cut the little welds and knock out the studs; smooth out the metal a bit so the bolt heads will be laying flat; and you're good to go.

Yup, that is how you convert the manual to auto one.

Can you find the OEM Jeep part number? I tried to find one but got the same "universal" mount as my FSJ takes, which is wrong and too small. Check out a NAPA BK 620-1241 which is the same for V8, 6 and 4 cyl CJ and FSJs from '72 to '91.

EDIT: Ignore the above number.  BK 621-1315 is the correct one for '81-'83 CJ7 with 4 cyl and '81-'85 Scrambler with 4 cyl but it's listed for $60. Also '80 to '88 AMC Eagle auto or stick.

I went online and found it's Anchor 2921 which is 1/2 that price.

Figured it out. It's listed for 81 CJ7 with FOUR cylinder.  Anchor 2921 (see above)

Maybe worth mentioning is that a stickshift four cylinder Eagle uses the same mount as a stickshift six cylinder Eagle. It is the same but it is rotated 180 degrees which causes a 1" change in offset side to side. They also drilled six holes in all the crossmembers. Front four holes versus rear four holes made up the difference from front to rear. Pretty nifty.

Hello,  Finally found the paperwork when I bought the trans mount ( automatic trans ) ..  here is the Chrysler part number for the mount  J3236067 .. cost $133.00  .. do the lookup for '81 CJ with auto trans, mount is the same for Eagle which is no longer something they have part numbers for.  Later, Iron Horse  :o
