I want to make a receiver hitch for my SX/4.  I have a hitch that is most likely from a wagon, since the square box part of it sits right under the bumper.  I want it farther under the car.  Does anyone have diagram/pictures/measurements of one on an SX/4?

All the ones I've seen are about flush with the back of the rear bumper.

That's like the hitch I have.   Perhaps there was never a hitch made for the SX/4.  There is enough room behind the tank to recess the receiver under the bumper, with the square bar under the rear body seam.   Just need to brush up on my welding skills.

AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

I have one factory bumper hitch from an SX4. Since the rear bumper of an SX4 is an identical piece of extruded metal as the front bumper of all Eagles (not true for the other body styles, including Kammbacks)  this hitch will end up on the front of the Eagle for moving trailers around. In the rear I used a Jeep XJ hitch. Frame spacing is the same. I have the bolt heads under the carpet and then they extend 6 or 8 inches down through the subframe to the hitch.

I love how snug and subtle the Jeep Cherokee hitch fit under my bumper, but I did run into trouble in putting a cotter pin in and out. I had to notch the back panel. The notches are visible in this picture.

Thanks for the pictures.  That is exactly what I want to make.  I do have a Cherokee parts car, but the hitch on it is a fixed hitch.  I want a receiver hitch.  Maybe I can modify it enough.   We'll see.
