Jeep 999 Transmission
« on: September 28, 2014, 11:13:04 PM »
Would this transmission be easily swapped in place of the stock 998?

Did these have different spline counts on the output shaft, and if so would the 998 shaft swap over?

As long as it came from behind a 6cyl.. it should bolt right in. That's a steal! I'm not 100% sure about the length of the output shaft. I doubt they changed it, but you never know.

They did. The 999 has 2 ouput lengths but both are 23 spline. Almost 1" difference. The pan shape is what I'd like to see. Bell pattern too because that doesn't look right on that angle for some reason. 999 is AKA 32RE.
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

The lockup is controlled by computer after '91. A500 = 42R ("H" means hydraulic and"E" means computer controlled aka electronic)

According to Wikipedia, the A999 used in the '95 YJ is classified as a 32RH, so it wouldn't be electronically controlled.

*Oops, nvm. Reading now that the TC on all 30RH/32RH transmissions have an electrical solenoid controlled by the pcm

Here's a pretty good source: http://www.scribd.com/doc/23066655/30RH-32RH-AUTOMATIC-TRANSMISSION
