Actually, they aren't that hard to find. It's the way people look for them that is the problem. The 998 is a number most don't understand and just call them 904s. They are pretty simple to build as well. I sort of wish I had used my old trans to build the 999 I have (it's an upgraded version of the 998) and I'd have EFI in my wagon by now, but I couldn't afford to pay the garage anymore (and now I'm paying it still to store my stuff it that was under my carport that blew away)

I second that. It is considerably easier to find parts and resources for these transmissions than any other transmission type. They were around for so long and in so many different cars, no other single version of transmission will have the support they do.

Well Where im at i can't even find a used 727 or 904... AMC are not popular i think ive seen 3 1 of which being mine.

Both of them were used in millions of Chrysler cars and trucks, that's why parts are readily available

The 998 is one of the easiest transmissions I've ever torn apart and rebuilt. I made the mistake of trusting two idiots that had no idea what they were doing with this transmission when it went out the first time and I ended up paying $$$$ for it when it blew up two more times. Flushed the radiator across 3 days, rebuilt the transmission and replaced the torque converter and since then there haven't been any problems. I've been finding a lot of 727s in the junkyards around Vancouver and the Portland North yards. Easy money.

I have a good lockup 727 with NP219 that I'm selling for $200 the pair near Seattle. Heck, if I got the right offer, I'd sell the non-lockup 727 and NP229 in my Eagle now and swap those in.
