If you have an autoparts store nearby, see if the have the ECM tester
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

If you want, I have an ECM Test harness I could ship you for ~$10 with Paypal. It would plug directly into the ignition module on one end and the distributor on the other. There is only one (green) wire that you must hook up to the negative(-) side of the coil.

Side Note: Why in the world does n.u.t.t.e.r. bypass auto correct to ecm test?

I think its because John N utter (who came up with the bypass) does not want his name associated with a technically illegal modification.

What exactly does the harness do?

It allows your ignition to bypass the computer without actually having to splice wires (other than the green coil wire). It's a plug and play ECM Test.

Your '82 will be slightly different because the ignition module has 3 wire connectors. I believe adding a jumper wire to the two prongs on the odd connector basically turns it into a 2 connector module, but I'm not certain. My '82 runs fine using a 2 connector module and the ecm test harness.

You'd still have to mess with the stepper motor on the carb. I've never had to do that since I have a non-feedback Carter BBD.
