New guy here. 85 Eagle now in my garage
« on: July 14, 2014, 07:58:12 AM »
Hey everybody, just recently picked up a 85 Eagle Sedan. 96,000 original miles, and no rust. Told I'm the third owner and its been in a garage for 10 years. Lifted already but Id like to do it properly at some point.    Runs and drives fine, already need to replace the Neutral Safety Switch, plan to do a ECM Test bypass. was idling a bit rough. Might just need a general carb tune but ideally Id like to wipe out as much vacuum and computer stuff as I can. which happens to be my weak point. Mechanics I understand better.

In Chicago so if there are any other eagle owners in the area id be great to get any local recommendations on people/mechanics/shops that are familiar with Eagles. Got the service manuals and just starting the learning process myself.

Here are a few photos.   Anybody know anything about this body style? I've never seen one like it, with the filled in rear pillars where windows are normally.
Anyway any info is always appreciated.
Time to start trying to get the front driveshaft off so I can get a tool in for the NSS.

Welcome, looking good.
No vinyl roof either. Probably a fleet car.
That would be my guess also.

As mentioned, it's likely a fleet car, but could just be a previous owner mod. I've seen several people on the forum get rid of the rear opera window on the 4 doors.

Check out the AMC Eagle SOAR Database to find any locals and fill out your own stuff so people can find you on the map!

Thanks guys, ya just thought it was odd. I looked all over the net and cant find anything like it. Don't think its a mod, inside panels are factory and filled also and body shows no signs of work. Guess Ill have to look into it more. I like it though gives the rear end a bit of muscle. Any ideas on what kind of fleet this would be part of?

Thanks for the advice Prafeston, Ill do that now.

looked at the SN. Manufactured at the Canadian plant. Pretty sure it was a Canadian government car from some things I found on the forum. There is a sticker on the truck covering what looks to be a hole for a whip antenna.

Looks BIG! I would have to put side step bars to get in and out. Looks very Tough and intimidating. Have fun with that one.

if i'm not mistaken all Eagles came from the Canadian plant by 84 but i could be wrong. as for the antenna hole it's possible that the car was a taxi at first.

Thanks 1jLnut. The plan is more lights, a roof rack, and a canoe on the top for a nice camping set up after the other things are dialed in.
Could be maddog, not too sure, I'll have to look and see if there are any mounting holes else where for radio etc.   Or I should just not worry about it and get that thing on the trails ha.

Wow that thing looks tough as nails!  Nice score.  What is the current lift situation on it?
