Removing Front Bumper Guards
« on: May 28, 2014, 11:31:53 PM »
I plan on going to the local junkyard that had the Eagles to get some things for my uncles car. While I am there I noticed that the 84 wagon still had it's front bumper guards. Assuming it is still there (I was told it would be crushed soon) I'd like to save those. From how it looks on my car, it seems like I'd have to remove the whole front bumper to get to whatever holds them in place. Is that correct? Are there any other ways to do this? Are they worth saving at all?

Also some time or another I may want to pull the trim of the two door Eagle that is also there to sell to someone than needs them. How would I do that?

Don't think he's talking about the end caps.

See #2 in the top drawing. Looks like they're just bolted on.

You will need to go under the front at the side you should find a nut (3/8?) at about the middle of the end cap. That has to come off.

Thank you for that diagram Mernsy, without a doubt clears things up. If this car is going to be crusehd soon I'd like to save whatever is still good on it before it goes to the junkyard in the sky.

I was able to reach the bolts for the bumper guards to tighten them with the bumper installed.

There are a few little sheet metal nuts that hold them on. If it's an sx/4 or a kammback grab the rear caps! They are very hard to find and highly sought after.

Because the car was on the ground with no front wheels and it looks like it hit a pole or something bendig the bumper, I was unable to get at the bolts. However I was able to grab a nice intact, unbroken drivers side headlight bucket. The passengers side was also very nice and I wanted to grab it, but they were closing in 15 minutes and I didn't want to hold them up. Still want to grab it but not sure when I will have the opportunity to get over there again.

I'm well aware of the rarity of parts for SX-4's and Kammbacks, unfortunately there are no SX-4's or Kammbacks. There is a blue wagon (84 I think), a Two Door Sedan, and a Concord two door sedan. All three are pretty trashed, but there are still a good amount of useable parts.

Also, last time I was there I noticed that the two door eagle had an okay set of rear floor mats in the burgundy/red/maroon interior color. At least one had a tear in them and were dirty, but looked useable. Would there be any interest in them? The front floor mats were WAY to far gone since the windshield was long ago removed.

At this time any good small bodied parts that cross over are a good idea to snag from beyond repair donor cars.

What would be examples of desirable stuff off of the wagon and two door eagle and concord? I leave for college tomorrow so I have no idea when I'd be able to get back over there. At least I'll know what may be valuable to save off these cars. Looks like they have been sitting in this yard for years, which is very rare in NJ.
