84 Wagon LKQ Denver
« on: May 10, 2014, 06:55:55 PM »
New wagon just showed up at the LKQ in Denver.  Pretty rough, not much to save. I did get a rear wiper arm, steering wheel and cargo cover. Also found an 81 Jeep truck, got the steering wheel, and may go back for the seats, pictured below

Would really like to have those mirrors for the sx4 me and my son are working on, it has some really stupid looking aftermarket ones that are broken anyway.

Wagon mirrors would work on an sx4 , right?

They are power mirrors, but the control is missing.

We don't need the power part, mine on my car haven't worked in years anyway. Just need the mirrors themselves, no wires needed

I've got the mirrors I took off my wagon to put on the sport mirrors.

Is that a tape deck I spy? Or just the digital scanner am/fm.

It is a AMC AM/FM/cassette.  I think the forward/reverse lever is broken because there was no tension on it at all.  I was still going to grab it until I noticed the mouse droppings on top of it, and can only imagine how much there would be behind the dash.  The glove box was also full of torn up stuff, and there was a moderate odor of mouse pee in the car, so the mice had been living in there for awhile.

The steering wheel would be worth saving, as would the power mirrors even if the switch itself isn't there.  The switch can be found elsewhere.

I'd love to have those alloy wheels if there were a reasonably priced way to get them up here to Alberta.

Man, that's rough. I'd grab the electric mirrors anyway, someone will be looking for them. They're too rare.

That's some nice looking chrome on the center A/C outlets.

Pretty rough looking car, though. That radio is not quite right. The bumper hitch is wrong as well, it looks installed backward.

Another thing to look for - working license plate lights. Maybe see if it's a non-2.35 front axle, but chances are slim.

That radio is not quite right.

I think the reason it looks goofy is the face plate that came with the cassette radios is missing.  It's definitely the standard issue AMC AM/FM/cassette radio though.

I saved the steering wheel.  I don't know if there is an economical way to ship wheels.  Plus the wheels in the junkyard aren't a great deal to begin with.  Its $20 each for alloy wheels, plus $12 each core charge, plus another $15-20 if there is a tire on it, or you pay $3 to remove a tire, plus sales tax and environmental fee which add about another 10%.  I am able to get much better deals on Craigslist around here on wheels.

And there may have been locking lugnuts on these wheels.  There are a lot of really nice wheels in the junkyard that end up being crushed with the car because of those stupid locking lugnuts.

Just been running some numbers here, regarding those wheels.  So, after purchase price, core charge, tire removal, fees and taxes, it would be about $40 per wheel.  Shipping via FedEx ground would be about $180 by my calculations.

So that's about $340 plus compensation for your time and effort.  Even at that cost, I'm still thinking these may be worth going after.  Assuming you have time, and the wheels are still there, and not held on with locking nuts.  There are devices available to remove those, though.
