Roof Racks
« on: December 31, 2013, 11:45:29 AM »
Looking through some of pages here, just a curiosity question. When did Roof Racks switch between fixed racks and sliding racks? I looked through the 1983 info and picutres thereshow wagons with fixed roof racks. My 83 has a rack with sliding cross bars.

AMC made running changes, typically in January. So it may be possible if your '73 is a late production one that it has a different roof rack.  The dealer brochures were often printed a couple of months before the new model year.  That is why you will see SX/4's in some/most of the '84 brochures.

I think it was sometime between 82-83 that they switched over. And I just learned recently that I think 80 only had the fixed rack with rear spoiler like the ones found on the Concord wagons.

Mine has a Jan 83 Build date.

That could explain the difference.
