Uhaul hitch
« on: December 17, 2013, 02:15:14 PM »
Ok, so basically whenever I am bored, I decide I want to put a hitch on my car. Go figure. However, I found something interesting today. UHaul makes a hitch for a Concord Sedan...but not wagon or any Eagle....is there a difference at all between a Concord sedan and any Eagle...especially a wagon?

2017 Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic
1993 Mercedes-Benz 500SL

I like to to tell people my Eagle is like a Ferrari. It's quirky, tempermental, border-line exotic, and something you don't see everyday.  See? Makes perfect sense....

Eagles do not have recoverable bumpers.  But, if it is a Class 2 hitch that should not make any difference.  Concord Sedans and Wagons were basically the same.  I wonder if the Concord U Haul is referencing is the later Chrysler version?

My guess is if you did some more digging they don't have anymore. Uhaul made Eagle hitches too...but they won't make them any longer and I think someone bought the last one from them years ago.

I see if you take it to Tempe AZ, they will do it for free.

Nope, it is a class II, and Concord RWD sedan is the only fitment option they show. I double-checked to make sure...I did a 1980, 1982 and '83. N/A for coupes and wagons and every configuration of Eagle. (Yes, I checked Spirit too!). I wonder if they did a custom hitch for someone, and therefore have it in their system without doing a cross-check of any other models?

The cost of their "custom made" hitch (when they do not have it in their system) is $1000. Yeah, they'll make one for free...I'll just add the short drive to Tempe, AZ on my list of things to do  :rotfl: That being said, I honestly could have it done when I do the CO trip this fall because I am going to Show Low, AZ afterward, but I would like the hitch for the summer to take my Jetski places.

Prafeston, I can order the hitch right on their website....they are built to order. Apparently at some point they forgot how to make an Eagle one...which is the same thing as a Concord (fundamentally)...right??

It should be the same.  I bet you are right.  Someone got one for an '80 Concord and like you said they stopped there with fitment applications.   Gee, I have an '80 Concord, maybe I should check into one?

Yeah, maybe! They at least got the Concord right...it shows as available for a Concord Sedan for any year you put in...I tried several model years just to make sure it wasn't what you initially suggested...for a ConcordE.

I'm going to build myself another receiver hitch like I had before, but it won't be certified like the last one.
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

It would be great if we could get that hitch to a hitch builder so they can copy it and possibly certify it, so that there is a source for them. Unfortunately, there is a very SMALL market, so that's probably not a viable option.

Does it need to be certified?  I have made several hitches before, and have access to laser cutting technology (I have parts made all the time).  I have one on my sedan I could copy and produce.  Just a thought though.....Rich

I personally have no use for one. I have one built into my rear bumper. However, if someone wanted to rent a trailer from Uhaul, they may want to see a sticker with the ratings on the hitch.

Most if not all rental places will not rent any trailer for use on any vehicle less than 3/4 ton full size.  It might be different for something like a log splitter or other small trail-able equipment. That being the case, it would not matter if the hitch was certified.
