Need help chosing the right rims and tires...
« on: November 18, 2013, 08:36:05 PM »
Alright I have the eagle now I want to put new shoes on her. I am looking at a new set of rims and tire. I will be keeping her and my boy wants it for his fist car in 4 years.

I like the BFG MT in a 215-75-15 Has anyone used that size tire on a stock setup. For rims I am looking for something cool but most of the stuff I like is in a 8" wide rim. I will be putting new front slings in from ESPO and looking for a set of new rear leafs but not from them as I have read nothing good on here about their leafs

Any words of encouragement before making a decision.

I have 215-75-15 tires, on Grand Cherokee 15 x 7 wheels.  I haven't had any problems with the fit or rubbing.  I have the original springs all around, which aren't sagging too much.

I am currently looking at some 16 x 8 wheels, and will probably go with something like 215-70-15 tires.

You might have a bit of a problem mounting the tires.

Im running Tiger Paw 215/70/15 tires on Jeep wrangler "canyon" wheels

I added 1" wheel spacers to the rear so I could put the center caps on and make it line up right. Eagles are 1" narrower in the rear stock.

I do have some helper springs on the rear shocks and some spring spacers on the front coils to level it out nicely. Stock springs still

Did have a slight rub until I replaces the front strut rod bushings and got it aligned, now no rub

I am having a heck of a time tring to find a nice aftermarket rim in a 7" so I can run a 215-75-15 everything is 8" and a 3.75 offset. I have been told that I cant fit a 215-75 on a 8" wide rim needs to 7" or less. if I go 8" wide with a 3.75 offset it will make the tires stick out 1.75 in or more. Any help I was looking for a rim something like

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=wheelCloseUp&wheelMake=Method&wheelModel=NV&wheelFinish=Machined+w%2FBlack+Accent&tab=wheels

Or

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=wheelCloseUp&wheelMake=Ultra+Motorsports+Xtreme&wheelModel=Xtreme+X-Lok&wheelFinish=Black+w%2FMach+Lip&tab=wheels

With a set of aggressive looking tires MT or AT

Any thoughts :banghead:

Have you seen some of the tires the stanced scene is putting on super wide rims? I'd think a 215 could be stretched a bit to fit the 8in...or just up it to a 225...

I'm worried that it may rub a lot if I go 225 and leave stock height.

You can cut the inner flares to allow no rubbing and it does not effect the outward appearance of the car.

Capt has a writeup on it. Couldn't find the one here on the Den, but here it is on the EVO forum.

If you go to tirerack and search for wheels for a 94 (or similar year) Grand Cherokee, then you can filter out for 15" wheels, and they have several with a larger backspacing.  And if you have to go with an 8" wheel and wider tire you could cut the tire ratio down to a 70 or 65 to try and avoid rubbing.

I found this website that gives recommended wheel width for different tire sizes.  It looks like 215's should generally be used on 6-7.5" wheels, 225 can be used on 6-8" wheels.

http://customwheelsmarket.com/rimwheelwidth1.html

Have you looked at any of the higher offset wheels?  I understand that the Grand Cherokee wheels I've been using are 15x7 with a 5.25" backspace, and they work well.  If you do the math and work backwards, a 7" wheel with a 38 mm offset should have a 5" backspace.  As someone noted in another thread though, actual offsets/backspacing may vary from what is advertised, so its important to actually have someone measure the backspace.

Good luck, I'm wanting to upgrade my wheels also, so I'll be interested to see if you find something that is going to work for you.

I found another sight with lots of wheels.  If you like the classic 5 spoke look, this set might be good, 15x7 with some positive offsets available:

check these out, 15x7 many available backspace options. http://www.aeroracewheels.com/wheel_pgs/fifty_series.html     or you could always get some rims and centers and make your own offsets. I have done that many times on race cars.  LAZ
