Throttle Cable...where does it go?
« on: October 18, 2013, 06:58:45 PM »
Ok..so I've had my throttle cable "incorrectly" hooked up for a while after it fell off at a VERY inopportune time. It mostly works, but it is definitely not in the right spot, and I feel like it should be. In any case, does anyone have an illustration or a photo of where the throttle cable connects to the linkage?

You're the best! I totally have it in the wrong spot. I'll have to fix it when the engine is cold and I can see, lol.

Many helpful diagrams can be seen in the Den's Eaglepedia in the two parts manuals.  The link for the Eaglepedia can be found at the top of each page in the News section.

Bump! I never addressed this, and I want to before I start driving the car regularly. Hopefully Baskinator can chine in. Based off the diagram, I cannot the "hook" or "stud" that the throttle cable links to. Is it possible it could have broken off? Or is it in some weird spot that is harder to feel/find than the diagram looks? If anyone has a picture of their car, it would be greatly helpful. Thanks!!

I can probably send you the entire assembly and cable to swap out with whatever is there. I wish I was still awake when that broke as you were leaving, we could have swapped it right then.

Capt...is there some sort of plastic clip or something that goes over the steel hook-thing that looks like it connects to the ball-end? If so, that's what I'll need for sure. Oddly enough, it's worked in the convoluted way I did it (mostly) but I'm in bad shape if anything ever gets stuck. Thanks! I'll txt you too.

I really don't know what you're talking about here. Are you talking about where the throttle cable connects or the linkage that goes from the pivot up to the carb? That rod is prone to popping off and it is meant to have two metal clips wrapping around the rod to keep the ball in its hole.

No, I am talking about where the throttle cable connects.  I've dug underneath there endlessly and cannot figure it out. The rod from the linkage to the carb is in tact.

The throttle cable goes through a square hole then the end of the cable clips to a ball. Does the cable keep popping off the ball? Sounds like you just need a new throttle cable. That's really easy to swap out.

Or is it the part on the pedal?
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

This is exactly my problem. I did (finally) find the proper location of where the cable is supposed to go. And, yes, the throttle end is slipping on and off the ball with zero effort. Is the Best solution to replace the cable? I wasn't sure if I could just replace the end. Thanks Capt!
