Where is the temp sending unit?

My temperature gauge has been running very high for the past 6 months since I bought my Eagle, it rides the very top line of the green zone, all of the time.  I have replaced the radiator, water pump, thermostat, and thermostat housing as well as flushing out the coolant.  Absolutely no change whatsoever. 
I was reading on here yesterday that is could be the temperature sending unit needing replacement, so I went out and bought that today (http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_coolant-temperature-sensor-bwd_3999645-p?searchTerm=coolant+temperature+sensor#fragment-1).
My simple question is: where is the temp sending unit??  (85 wagon 258 auto)

The sending unit is on the left or driver's side of the engine, behind the carburetor. It sticks straight up out of the head and has a single wire connected to it. The connector lifts straight up.

You can install the new sender without draining the radiator. Have your new sender ready to install. While your engine is COLD disconnect and loosen the old sender with an end wrench until you can turn it with your fingers. Pull out the old sender and QUICKLY stick your new sender in the hole. Screw it down with your fingers until it's tight. Tighten with the wrench one more turn. Connect the wire and you're done! :eagle:

Ok, so i think I am looking at the right thing, but just to clarify, when you say behind the carb, do you mean towards the front or back of the car?  I found what I think is it, it is near the carb towards the front of the car.  The only problem is the existing one has no hex head to unscrew, it is round and red in color.  Do i need to unscrew the large hex nut  that holds it on i assume? or am i looking at the totally wrong thing?

On my Eagle it's toward the back of the car, near the firewall. There is a hex on the sender. It's on the engine cylinder head.

I guess I should ask...do you have a six-cylinder in your Eagle? :eagle:

yes it's a 6 cylinder, I'll give it another look, thanks!

Follow the valve cover towards the firewall and look for a pink or orange wire. Will probably make life easier to remove the air cleaner.

On a side note there is another sender for the computer on a different part of the intake but I won't confuse you with that :p
