banging noise on down shift
« on: June 12, 2013, 01:30:02 PM »
im getting a banging noise on down shifts and kind of a popping noise on hard acceleration.  Its like the t-case is banging into the floor pan or something..  i looked at the motor mounts and the tranny mount seemed good when i swapped the tranny over the winter.  any guesses or similar experiences?

I was getting that, replaced the transmission mount, it had collapsed and the tcase was hitting the skid plate a little from time to time

New tranny mount and noise all gone!

Also if you have an automatic you cant easily find (or afford) a tranny mount, buy the one for a manual, it works find with a little modification. Search it here on the nest

Quick test. Use a load strap around the crossbar and trans cinched down tight. If the noise goes away, you found the problem. If not, check the left strut bracket for cracks and worn out bushings.
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!
