Torque Converter wont seat

Hello again,
I am having an issue getting my new torque converter to seat correctly.
I have an 86 eagle base wagon. I went with a converter I got from Oreillys.
the part number was CR53H. It was a Pro king model. The specs listed seamed to match the convertor that I took out
so that's the one I went with.  If I set the side by side the look the same.
Now my problem is that the convertor seems to hit something when I put it on. The old one will slide on with no problem but the new one just wont go. I have even tried standing the transmission upright with no success.
I know the input shaft looks a little worn but I don't know if that is my problem.
Any help would be greatly welcome.
If I forgot to mention something just ask and I will try to answer.

Take a close look at the snout that goes into the transmission of the new converter that goes into the transmission  and make sure it is identical to the old one. The 86 should have a non lockup transmission. When I look up that part number it has it listed for all year Eagles, which can't happen since some years have lockup and other non lockup transmissions.

According to Advance Auto Parts website, that part number is a lock up converter. Look at the input shaft on your transmission, if the splines go all the way to the end you have a non lockup, if there is a small area with no splines at the front, you have a lockup. According to Pro King's catalog the only non lockup converter they carry for non lockup is the CR52H which is a high stall converter. I have no idea how much difference there is between their high stall and low stall converters.

I did a quick search and it appears the high stall is only a couple hundred rpm difference and most likely is what came stock in the car anyways.

Thanks for all your help guys.
I took a closer look at my converter and it does have splines all the way to the end. Looks like I got the wrong one.
I thought I read somewhere that the 86 had a lockup, but I must have read that wrong.
I took a look at pro kings website to check out that other part number and I noticed that the non lock up has
27 splines and the lockup is 26. Is the 86 trans actually a 27 spline input.
Thought I would ask to make sure before I buy the wrong one again.

I've never counted them, but a quick search of the net shows non lockup TF904's (998 is a 904) have 27 spline input shafts.

  thanks for the quick reference,
  I looked around and found that oriellys did not carry the non lockup version. And the supplier is out of stock.
The supplier did not know when they would have it back in stock. Must not be very popular. Just my luck right.

  Well some more searching and I found that Autozone has a Dacco converter that should work the part number for that is R23. That is a 27 spline non lock up. If someone wants to verify that for me it would appreciate it.
Otherwise I will order that one on Saturday after work. Lets hope this one fits.

Part number R23 fits great and it all bolted up nicely.

I can vouch for that. I've gone through a really insane transmission fiasco when rebuilding my auto the first time and then much worse when I replaced it with one "identical" from an 84 Eagle. Do NOT mix up the internals when rebuilding and the non-lockup is favorable as it is more durable. Anything else, don't worry about it.
