neutral saftey switch keeps failing

any ideas why a neutral saftey switch would go bad.. i replaced my original and the new one worked for a while but now its shot too.. ideas?

The plastic piece inside the trans that the NSS rides against could be worn out or cracked (I saw LOTS of that in Mopars) :eaglebig:
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

Start and finish by buying a stickshift solenoid. The manual transmission solenoid grounds to the body through the screws, it has no post. Its otherwise identical to the automatic version. No damage will occur to the transmission at any time without the switch. It will allow you to start the car in drive while still rolling on the road, which is precious when you're running a Carter carb.

well at the time i just grounded that terminal to start mine up. but i could switch if i cant figure out the source of the problem. thanks

I never did figure out exactly what my electrical gremlin problem was, but it caused the solenoid to fail which caused the neutral safety switch to fail.  My electrical problems went away when I pulled the resistor wire off the solenoid, which you can do if you've done the distributor upsizing.
