Longer speedometer cable?
« on: May 07, 2012, 11:47:38 AM »
The cable broke on my Eagle with the 5.3L swap. The transmission is longer than the 998 so I need a cable that is a few inches longer. Does anyone know if there is a OEM solution or should I just get a custom cable?

Could they have used a speedo cable from an 80's GM pick up?

Couldn't tell you. The one in there now is pretty tight. I think it may be a stock Eagle cable. I ordered one from http://www.speedometerplus.com/speedometer_cables. The gentleman I talked to seem really knowledgeable. I asked about a 90 degree adapter. THEY STOCK THEM! $95 He said there cables are more heavy duty and much more flexible than the parts store cables and didn't think I would need the adapter. The custom made cable came to $59.95 plus shipping.

:occasion14: Good price, probably couldn't buy one at a parts store for that.

rock auto carries them.  for the auto trans w/o cruise, it's like 81"  I think they list it for like $16

would that be long enough?   There's also an upper (38") and the lower (58")

The 4L60E is a few inches longer than the 998. Plus I need to route it away from the exhaust and that requires a little more length. The stock cable was stressed and is probably why it broke.
