What models are the same grill mounting pattern as our eagles? I have something up my sleeve but i need to know what models are interchangeable with the eagle so i can include them. thanks for your help.

carnuck

AMC Spirit, Late model Gremlin and Concord (some are 2 headlight and some are 4)
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

aw i see the 2 headlight one are very different. Thank you

That two headlight Hornet setup is quite attractive but it looks like the fenders are different at the doors even if the rest would match up.

Saint Michael has awesome light output now with 4x H4 conversions, but still has one broken headlight bucket and the egg crate is very fragile and cracked, so I'm interested in other things that might swap in place...

If you pull the front trim off around the headlights, you'll see that the fenders still have the relief and mounting points for the 2-headlight setup. I believe someone here has done that!

Haven't been on here much lately . . Here's my experience - the '79-'80 Spirit AMX grill will mount to the Eagle radiator support, but it only uses the center mounting hole on the top part of the grill piece - I had to remove the two outer mounting tabs to get it to fit. There must have been a minor change in the headlight buckets, because my '83 SX/4's buckets do not have provisions for using the outer upper mounting tabs on the AMX grill. Problem with the AMX grill is they're rare and expensive.

You could make your own "AMX" style grill from square steel tubing and expanded metal. Its basically just a rectangular frame with expanded metal set inside the frame and another course of tubing offset forward at the base. Couple of mounting tabs and you'd be there, and it'd be small-animal roadkill-proof.

was it just the buckets that was different and not the support?

I can take a pic of the unused mounts. All I have for pics of the grill installed is with the hood closed.

Both would be apprecated but what ever pics you can get would be great!

Is the 80s slat a stock grill?

Prafeston

Yeah, stock Eagle Grill for 80s model only I think...someone will correct me I'm sure.

El Matador

A few "1980isms" (five digit odometer, floor mounted high beam switch, full time 4WD...) carried over into 1981, but the grille wasn't one of them.  That grille is 1980 only, and was also used on Concords that year.
