The "Brake" light is for your Ebrake. It has a tiny wire going to a spring pushrod underneath a star shaped rubber bumper built into the Ebrake assembly. That wire probably popped free of the pushrod. You might also have your Ebrake on while you're working on your brakes.

Oh wow that's really good to know. I was at a loss to see what that wire to the brake proportioning valve did because its been unplugged for awhile on my car with no visible effect. Thanks!

Does the wire to the proportioning valve trigger the light once its unplugged? My wiring harness has been damaged by a car fire so what mine does isn't necessarily what it should do. Could he unplug it or alligator clip ground the plug to troubleshoot his light?

I'm guessing the proportioning valve completes a ground to the "brake" light to make it turn on. Thus unplugging it will instantly cut the ground and turn the light off if that's the culprit. True?
