The last year for available "new" parts
« on: January 28, 2012, 04:52:59 AM »
Anyone know what the last year was that new parts (especially body and interior) were available. Did chrysler still manufacture any AMC body parts after the buy out or was it strictly surplus that was sold until gone?

Unfortunately, Lee Iacoca ordered the bulldozing of a huge amount of parts from the old AMC warehouse(s) and factories.  Some did remain in the MoPar pipeline and a few may still be lingering but not many.  The molds and dies for body parts are long gone too.

Last time I checked, door scuff plates were still available from Chrysler for 68-74 AMX and Javelins. Not sure when the last production run was done, but it was done by Chrysler. Can't think of anything else other than "leftover" parts still in warehouses. I did buy apparently the last remaining factory sunroof weatherstrip last year from a Chrysler parts supplier, so you never know what might still be in stock somewhere.

I was talking to a guy at an AMC show and he said the same thing. He said his dad worked for an AMC dealer and watched them bury AMC parts where a foundation for a new building was going in.  >:(

The bulldozers kind of folded them and NOT along the dotted lines!
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

Yup, Chrysler buried AMC both figuratively and literally.

These days, the only time Chrysler even acknowledges the existence of AMC is when they're trying to extort royalties out of our reproduction parts vendors.  >:(
