I'M BACK!! woo hoo! (added pics)
« on: December 26, 2011, 07:48:18 PM »
and guess what i snagged today?  yup!  i found me a nice '85 sedan with only 71k on it.
it has all 4 mud flaps, all the original hub caps and looks to be good to go.
i did "try it on for size" as my wagon was a bit of a tight fit for me.  this sedan seemed to be very roomy even though it looked small from the outside.
here is the wording from the ad ....

"1985 AMC EAGLE WITH PICS - $1100
SUPER NICE EAGLE SEDAN. 4X4. NEW EXHAUST. NEW TIRES. CURRENT TUNE UP. LOOKS SUPER NICE. LOW MILES. NEW BATTERY. . RUNS GREAT.  HAS ALL SMOG ITEMS INTACT."

its really nice.   it has the usual saggy headliner but the rest is in great shape.  no rust that i can see, and it was garage kept.  this guy bought if from an old lady and it was her husbands car.  it has the manual and everything with it too.    he fixed it up for his girlfriend who hated it and wouldn't be seen in such a beast lol!  BUT I WOULD!
i don't have it home yet but it should be here by end of the week.   i never thought in a million years i would have an Eagle again, as they are getting more and more scarce.
but never say never!
its my 1st sedan though and my 1st "85.  anything i need to know about it?  any quirks?
its shift on the fly isn't it?

he said it will pass inspection and he is an inspection mechanic, so i hope thats true.
the last 2 vehicles i had inspected cost approx $500 to pass.  i don't want to go through that again!

anyways, i got it for $950.  i figured it was a great gift to myself for my 60th birthday coming up on the 3rd.
i can't wait to drive it!

I reposted this here as i am a kinda "reborn" hatchling in a way.
don't have my pics yet.

Welcome back, and happy birthday, youngster.

thanks!  i am pondering if i should put antique plates on it.  it limits me to one drive a week but no more inspections needed.  it didn't say if there was a mileage limit per year on antique plates, just the once a week thing.  i'll have to do more research on it.

Once a week seems kind of odd to me.  I can understand mileage restrictions.  Heck my friend Kenny can only drive his Corvette something like 5k miles a year, but limiting you to once a week?  I don't get it.  Hope Nebraska doesn't have something like that, of course I have until Jan. 2013 before my Eagle is eligible.  However I have my eye on another AMC that qualifies already and I don't want to be limited to once a week.

never heard of any driving restrictions on antique plates. In Florida it just has to be 30 years old and you can drive it like you stole it.

thanks for the welcome!  i have been catching up on some of the things i missed in my absence and its good to see all the familiar names still here and all the new members of the flock.
(minus Capt Carl  :'( i always liked that guy, anyone who loves Eagles and dogs is a good guy.  he was all that and more)
yeah, most women would be thrilled with a diamond ring or some bling for their birthday.  not me, thats a waste of hard earned $$.  i am much happier with my well spent $$ saving this great car.  i can't wait to get behind the wheel and turn some heads again.
i was hoping to bring it home today, but it will have to be tomorrow now.
so are there any particulars i need to know?  my '83 had to be stopped to go in 4X4.  my '86 did not.
it was great to sit in it and see the hood release still there, the "squid" knob and all the flaps and hubcaps there.
i said "how do i know this doesn't have 171k instead of 71k?"  he said   "look at the pedals they still have all their groves.  if it had that many miles on it they would be smoothed out"
yup
so i said how did you find this?  he said he saw it out in front of this old ladies house in a carport all covered with dust, so he knocked on her door.

the rest is history.
i am so glad his girlfriend hated it :)

You know living in Florida I see old cream puffs all the time but I only looked if there was a for sale sign. Sounds like I should take some initiative!
