driveshaft came out
« on: October 15, 2011, 04:36:55 PM »
The idiot that put the rebuilt driveshaft in before I got the car did not tighten the bolts properly. The bolts on the front yoke came loose and one fell out. Luckily the car was not moving at the time. The strap gave way and the u-joint shattered a cap on the way out. I have driven the Eagle about 6000km since owning and the driveshaft was put in 1700km before I got the car.

Pictures when I get home from work.

Not as bad as I thought. I could probably get away with just putting 2 new bearing caps on from a new u-joint that is kicking around but it's going to get a new u-joint tomorrow. The bent strap might be an issue to replace. And the muffler got smashed off as well and will need to be welded back on at the very least.

Total cost, worst case scenario: $15 u-joint, $15 for the machine shop and $100 installed for new muffler.

I've seeing the straps in the help parts section, but you can try to convert to the U strap there much stronger.

Get a U strap yoke from an FSJ (do a spline count) or ask for the strap kit for an '84 XJ
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

That would be too much work. It's almost winter here, 5c.

I will see if the guys at JB transmission have some and check the straps and bolts on the Concord.
