Speedometer quit on me
« on: October 13, 2011, 05:10:12 PM »
After 216k my speedometer just quit working. It's always bounced around a bit but now it's just dead.

What should I check first?

The cable going into the back of the speedometer has a plastic adaptor (from round to square)
Mine was broken, so you can check that first.

Thanks for the replies, have a few questions.

Where can I get a new speedometer cable? If that adapter is bad where can I get it? How hard is it to remove the gauge cluster? And lastly, is there a difference in cables with cruise control cars VS non cruise cars? Mine is equipped with working cruise.

Cruise still works? Different cables between them.

Haven't tried that yet but I was wondering if they're set up the same way the Jeeps are. If so that would mean that there's an issue between the cruise box and the dash.

I think Autozone or Advance should have the cable. I just bought a universal one and cut it to length. I think its was less than 4 bucks.
