Ive previously asked for advice on how to fix my 4wd. Ive gotten not so much advice but one person did mention that i could simply lock it in 4 wheel drive permanently. Im gonna do this since my mechanic is lazy and refuses to try figuring out the vaccuums etc. Now how do you go about doing this? I want to print out the replies so i can hand it to him so he cant complain saying he dosent know how. Thanks in advance!

send me your email addy and I'll send you the simple vac routing for the 4x4.  It will elininate most of the "stuff" and show you how to make it work w/ the bare minimum.

9/16wrench on the transfer case shift to the back is 2wd to the front 4wd. However make sure it is fully in gear. Or false neutral can result

I locked my front end some time ago.  I used the wrench to put mine in 4X4 for the winter.  I wired the shift lever in place because one time mine went into false neutral during one of our rare significant snow events.  After snow season I cut the wire and shifted to 4X2.

Forgot to add what year. Might have to lock the front axle with a hose clamp on the 84 and older

Whoops yes its a 1983. So I have to use that wrench on the transfer case AND lock the front axle? How do i goabout doin that? Or should my mechanic know?

jim

The mechanic probably won't know at first but once pointed in the right direction neither is difficult.  There have been some good write-ups about both here on the forum.

How far is it for 4wd, way forward or kinda more straight up and down?

Mine seems to be stuck, I think my shifter motor is seized maybe, it drives fine, I have the switch in 4 wd but when I shift to 2wd it doesn't move

I took a wrench to it, but it wouldn't move anymore forward

Is there is pic of how it looks in each selection?

Thanks
