my 'new' '87 wagon
« on: September 04, 2011, 04:27:46 PM »
newb - hi guys.  i sold an excellent '87 sedan years ago, and regretted it ever since.  so, i picked up my wagon yesterday, and glad i found you guys before i bought it.  very good over-all, standard 2 tone tan/brown(will post pics), original manual and svc records/mrs ?, spare never used etc, but i'm in need of parts sources.  tried the usual places for a cat con but no direct fit.  air tube is rusted away and hose is choked off with fold/zip ties.  any and all advice welcome

that's the way mine was so I just ditched most of the emissions equipment and installed a Cherokee cat I had in a parts joner.  Any respectable muffler shop should be able to get you in tip top shape (note respectable)

I can respect that, I was under the same mindset with my wagon when i got it then i just threw that plain in the trash when i started my quest to remove all of the ford that was holding my eagle back.  Not much ford left to it now ;D

i'm already suspecting a vac prob bec of the stall symptom when i shift from p to d.  so my natural inclination to start trouble shooting the system, would be disconnecting/plugging all the emission stuff and watch the effect.  and with no emission tests here in wv to get an inspection sticker.......

ya know, i just might have a 2150 out in the shed
but, i discovered a new prob yesterday - when i started it, the starter didn't quit starting it, and shutting it off didn't do it either until i keyed it again.  my cj did that once after setting for a long time, and it turned out to be the solenoid.  ran a ground wire from the base of the sol to the block, and it never happened again

if you have the 2150 and you need the Mr. gasket adapter make sure to get the stock manifold gasket for the carb because the gasket set I got with my adapter left a big void that caused a nasty vacuum leak
