1985 Eagle Stock Radio Photo
« on: July 26, 2011, 11:32:23 PM »
Does anyone have a picture of an AMC radio that would fit in an 1985 Eagle?  I'm looking to restore the dash with either with a working or nin-functional radio..  Right now, I just have a hole with some wires...

This is a picture of my 86 wagons stereo. It is the stock digital display AMC deck. My 82 had the 2 knob style but it was cut out and replaced with a sony CD player.

That's the same radio that was in the Cherokees of that era.  I've grabbed a few of those over the years and have one mounted underdash in my 72 Gremlin, since it came with just an AM radio.

This one lights up but produces no sound it just makes a pop when you start the car. I didnt even think of looking in the jeeps for a replacement...It makes sense AMC would have used the same radios in both.

I have what seems to be an original cb/am/fm radio that works but I am curious as how to take the deck itself out? Which screws do I look for because over the years (1984) it has became a fragile dash and I don't want to break anything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

That is a rare piece you have there. Not alot of of those CB combos were made and even fewer have survived. If you are planning on swapping it out for a newer stereo there are alot of folks on here that would buy that from you in a heart beat. as for the removal..its been about 10 years...Ill have to go out and refresh my memory in the morning....If nobody else chimes in ill let ya know in the morning.

I just noticed that you have a vent and what appears to be a switch over the radio... I have a whole there... What is the switch for?

URGH.. I hate finding out that I'm missing stuff..

So far, I need the radio, that top vent & switch and two speaker covers.. Obviously a previous owner had installed another radio and speakers and then removed them...

AMC must have upgraded the radios yearly because the stock one that was in my 83 Eagle looks nothing like that.  I have seen a few of those in the junk yards in Cherokees though.

In 85 AMC switched to the DIN sized hole in the radio bezel and the radio style that you see in the picture.  Prior to that they used the two knob style radios.

That is curious.  Could someone have swapped in a later model bezel and radio?

Yeah mine had the style with 2 knobs.  I think it was decided that the stereo my Eagle has was a dealer upgrade though because it is not a stereo that was originally an option.
