To enter in car show or not????
« on: July 12, 2011, 10:13:53 AM »
There is a small local car show this Saturday (July 16th) at an area hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. I was thinking of entering my Eagle in it even though it is all original looking and rough around the edges (some surface rust, imperfect paint, etc.) Some guys I work with thought it was a great idea to enter it even though it is not restored yet. Not too many Eagles are seen at car shows. Normally all I see for AMC are the AMX's and Javelins.

What do you guys think? Should I show off my Eagle even though she is rough around the edges?  :-\

hey why not? The sx/4 is incomplete, but we still take it to local shows and what not, you'll notice there are lots of *survivor* cars at shows now too.

We have entered both our Eagles in shows even though neither is anywhere close to being a show car.  I try to display some info about AMC and Eagles.  It's usually good for some conversation.  I've always enjoyed visiting with some of the other car guys and gals.

Enter it!! You may hear stories like, "My neighbour has some of those cars sitting behind his barn".
It's also a good place to advertise the 'Nest!  ;D

I found out there are two shows locally this weekend. One Saturday and one Sunday. Both are close and free so it would be a waste for me to not go! You guys are right, it doesn't have to be perfect to be talked about and enjoyed! Besides, there are plently or real "rust buckets" I've seen at shows before and my Eagle is far from one of those (IMHO).

I'll post pics of the events. Hopefully it doesn't rain!

Now I need to wash er down and shine er up!

whenever I take my wagon to shows I just have a piece of paper I lay on the dash that says "In Progress ..... to be continued"  Sadly everyone around here is nuts for mustangs or camaros so my poor wagon never gets the respect it truly diserves

I was surprised that my Eagle got as much attntion as it did at a car show on Memorial Day. The car brought back a lot of memories to the peeps around the area. Keep showing!

I'd say go. Generally the car show people are pretty friendly. I usually go and talk to the cars/people that aren't getting much attention.

I also have entered my very original but reliable 82 Eagle in the Chipman show in Alberta.  A very small place but very large car show.  Lots of beautiful cars of all makes.  Fellow AMC members have also shown their very lovely show AMC's.

My sense of humor hasn't got me into serious trouble yet, when I see a 69 Hemi that has been modified, I offer a Loonie (Canadian dollar) for it as not ORIGNAL-lol

Go for it, they are Fun.

I bring my '83 Woody, '82 SX/4, and '85 Eagle to a lot of car shows... they're all not perfect either.  People love them.

That's all in good fun, but..You get a lot of smart assed comments sometimes if you have a car there from people, but it's usually jealousy.

You'll get a guy who pulled up in a 1991 Corolla criticizing your car.. It's hilarious  ;D

The funny part is, for what I've seen 426 Hemi's [engine alone] you could buy several mint shape Eagles :P

even though it's too late for me to suggest, I put my Eagle in the Show n shine, and my car got quite a bit of attention.  And it's rough looking to boot.
