How to loosen power steering pump ? Duh.
« on: June 14, 2011, 05:31:20 PM »
Ahoy !
1985 258/4.2L w/power steering.
What bolts are to be loosened in order to adjust the belt? I loosened two 9/16 sockethead bolts (one long bolt at the front and low; the other at the rear of pump and high) and tried a breaker bar in the square hole for leverage on the bracket yet, the pump did not budge. I can't see what other bolts need to be loosened. The Chilton's I have is useless on this topic.
Yes, I need to remove the power steering pump as a step in the manifold gasket replacement.
Thanks.

OK; I got it. It was how I imagined but stuck perhaps corroded. Another good dosing of rust penetrant and a few more emphatic grunts on the breaker bar and all is now loosey-goosey uh... loosey-eagley.
Ah, Nuts, now I don't have an excuse to toss in the towel for the evening and mix up a G&T - gotta stay working.

The Chilton's I have is useless on this topic.

As it is with most repairs.

I think penetrating oil is one of my most used "tools" followed closely by the breaker bar.
