Hood no longer "popping up". Why ?

Now that's funny.

Yesterday everything was fine and suddenly my hood, when I pull the release knob (still working fine, I must be lucky ;) ) doesn't "pop" open like it did before.

This means it takes two people to actually open the hood: one pulling the knob from inside the car and a helper lifting the hood in the meantime. It's quite annoying, as I can't open it by myself !

I don't know why it happened, everything is well lubed, the cable slips in and out perfectly, the springs in the lock are fine, the hood brackets are aligned and move freely...

Where do I start from ?

Oh, really ? I guess that's why I need BOTH rear bumper corner caps now. Doh !

It's tired of you pokeing around under there , it wants some privacy : ) .

Maybe that coiled spring that pops it up ? Or your actual hood hinges need lubeing ? hmmm not sure really.

LaGuardia

 ;D I can't help it, I MUST poke in there, at least once a day !  ;D

(BTW, it must be another Eagle thing... now that you make me think about it, I don't recall opening a hood so often with the other cars I own).

The strange thing is that there's NO coiled spring... either it's missing since the beginning or I've lost it some place, it's not there. Gotta look better... I'll try some WD-40 on the hinges, the next time someone helps me opening it, of course !

Mine was doing the same after a long winter. Take some silicone spray, and spray the heck out of the cable which is visible on the front lock mechanism. Then work the hood pull several times, hood being up. Finally take white lithium spray, do the same, repeat by pulling the hood pull several times with the hood up. Close hood and test.

Will do. Surely it won't harm. The cable itself is working fine, anyway (strange, huh ? ;) )... but some added lubrication will help...

My hood doesn't pop up, but the cable still releases the hood.  I just have to pull up on the hood after pulling the cable.

LaGuardia

Draekon: it would work if the lock would remain "open" when releasing the handle.

I guess that my cable and lock are so functional and so well-lubed that they return in locked position as I let go the handle. So it's a dead end. ;)

And I think that now I just realized why it's doing that. The lock is just too much lubed ! ;)

So go grab some sand or mud and shove it in that lock!

i had the same problem with eagle eyes and it turned out that my hinges needed greased, i used some liquid wrench on them and i haven't had a problem since and there is no such thing as a lock being to well lubed.
