1982 sx4 original everything 258 6 keep having to goose the throttle to get it off of high idle to avoid the tranny crunch  its like this little thing on the side of the carb just keeps sticking it has a wire plug going into it do i just need to replace that part or lube it and if it is replaceable how hard is it to find and replace

That part is the choke controller. Does the choke open all the way when the engine has warmed up? Is the fast idle too high to start with or does it just stay on high idle too long? Possibly you need to adjust the high idle screw.

...... and its always good to clean and lubricate those carb linkages once in a while.

its just always stuck on higher then it needs to be and i think its hard on the transmission to put it in gear and into park that way but if you goose it it comes down no clue what to adjust it seams to be a sticky part

IowaEagle

One of mine did the same.  It just needed cleaning and good dose of WD40 as it is a solvent too.  May not cure your problem, but it can't hurt.
