Just trying to trouble shoot a no-start scenario.

Turns over nice and fast with Booster box+Optima yellow top
Auto Trans
Spark is good
Fuel is good
New Carb
New Rotor/Cap/Plugs/Wires/PCV

My question is will the engine still turn over if there are issues with the Neutral Safety Switch? Turns over great with no 'odd sounds'.

Next in the line will be Dist timing/Compression/double check plug gap/ then I'm pulling the Valve cover to check the 'train'.

Thanks all ..

The neutral safety switch is in the grounding circuit for the starter solenoid.
So, no it won't crank if the neutral safety switch is no good.
What does the booster box do?

Okay thanks, the thing is torn apart pretty good. Just wanted to make sure.
I'll press on with the timing.

Booster is just one of those Battery packs with an internal battery/charger for emergency boosting and whatnot.

Thanks again.

HI  You said it had good spark and good gas  if you have spark and gas the missing ingredient is timing...did you put wires on one at time ...Don

Ya, order is all good if that's what you mean. Waiting on a timing light. I do have a dwell tach.. hmmm.. time to pull out the old manuals. heh.
As long as I know the neutral switch would kill turnover, I can move on.

HI  If the timing were off it would backfire-sputter or some thing.Unless it was way out of time.if you just changed the wires -plugs-csp-roter it shud not be out of time .you said you had spark and gas right.........Don

Hey. So It's never run 'in my possession'. But it has 70k original KMs and a clean sheet. It did sit for a while and I've popped some fresh gas in the tank. Turned over a pumped through filter into a jar so the pump is working.

Just waiting on a timing gun.
Great tip to check the plugs for fuel, I will pull 1 and 6 and see if they're damp.
Carb is NOS so no issues there with clogging.

Thanks for the feedback. Just want to hear it run! hehe.. Then the body will be a cinch.

Has anyone mentioned the ICM?  A nonworking one will allow the engine to turn over but not start.

Not sure how to test.  If it has an AMC sticker on it, then its probably original and needs replacing.  Get a new one and see what happens.  Its always a good idea to have an spare ICM.

Also your timing light should be able to tell you if it's sparking.

Yup, ICM is a stocker. just posted a funny pic in 'don't do this'.
I'll have a new ICM and timing tomorrow. Praise the Spaghetti Monster that this thing runs.  :eagle:

New ICM / Regap / Timing. bloody-well better case it.  :banghead:
