AM/FM/CB Radio
« on: December 29, 2010, 09:03:59 PM »
Does anyone have or have seen a factory AM/FM/CB radio for the Eagle? I thought that was kind of neat when I saw it in the owners manual. I forgot that AMC had such a thing as an option. I doubt it was very popular though and probably pretty rare. I might be interested in buying one of these if anyone knows where I can find one.

Yeah; they are around.   A decent complete working one usually goes for ~$250 on that famous auction site.    They seem to mostly come out of Jeeps of that same era.

I have one that I pulled out of a Jeep.  I haven't gotten around to seeing if it works yet.  I just found an antenna that works with it.  I also have an AM/CB radio that needs some wiring help.

What was the last year for that option anyway? I know the whole CB/Smoky and the bandit phenoenon was kinda petering out in the 80's so I cant imagine a whole lot of people opted for that option...my buddies mom had an Eagle that had that option..Sadly she junked it to get an aftermarket cassete player.

From what I can tell from the dealer catalogs it was last offered in Eagles in '84 and the parts catalog suggests it was available in '85 but I doubt that as it seems to have been dropped when AMC when to the DIN configuration in '85.

Yeah, AMC could have done that to get rid of any extras.  I am thinking that they may have been offered in Jeeps a bit longer.  Not sure on that though.

It definatly seems it would have appealed to the jeeping crowd a bit more.... alot of American auto manufacturers  at some point in the late 70's/early 80's offered a CB option...they were hot stuff at the time!!....and still are pretty cool!! id love to have one in my bird!!!

This AM/FM Stereo CB radio option was manufactured by Mitsubishi and displayed in AMC passenger car showroom sales literature from 1978 through 1984. The sticker price of the unit installed in this 1978 Pacer was $299. Prior to 1978, various models of stand-alone Kraco and Johnson CB radios were offered as AMC dealer installed options.

Another vote for '84 being the last year for the factory version.
