What I did was install a stud for the back instead of the bolt, makes life easier to an extent (no bolt hole fishing, haha), I did the same in the front too, mainly to aid in keeping the gasket where I want it during install, lol.

I installed studs on both sides mainly because i got into the water jacket.  Putting the rear bolt in really isn't an issue for me it's just getting the valve cover on and off the car that is a real pain.

I drilled a hole in part of the firewall so I could drill and tap the hole, then install the screw.  Also, take the wiper motor off, it helps a lot.

there is definitely a trick to it, it's not much easier with a 4.0 valve cover. If I remember right, you have to keep it level as you lift it up until it hits the firewall then tilt the front down. BUUUT it's been a bit since I've had mine off, though it needs a new gasket..... don't buy cork :P

Fully noted about the cork gasket.  I have already ordered the rubberlike replacement.  I have tried everything to make a cork gasket seal on my car (3 gaskets latter and it still leaks). This time when the valve cover comes off I am going to straight edge the darn thing to see if my suspesion is correct about it being warped.

Today is going to be all about cleaning off the oilly engine and seeing if I can band aid the gasket till my new gasket comes.  Parts thati got for the car are starting to pile up and I am a lot farther behind then I would like to be

Parts starting to pile up sounds like the story of my Eagle.  I have not had any time to work on mine.  Plus one of the things I have parts for I do not know how to do.  Now I have new (to me) seats on a bus headed to Omaha.

it's been a while since an update on this car so I figure I might as well update.  The car is back to having a flat hood because the hinges got stiff and my oldest son decided to hang on the hood to try and get it to close bending the crap out of it (kids will be kids), the throttle plate on the BBD wore out and I am currently waiting on a brand new MC2150 from auto zone (the first carb they sent me was a motorcraft something but not a 21xx).  Monday should be parts day (carb was supposed to be delivered to my work yesterday, but it was an early day for me)

no pictures, just depression.  installed the carb tonight, set the timing and looked for the source of a lisp the engine has.  my though is leaning towards a burnt valve and this means everything that I have done the past 3 months needs to be removed and I have to take the head off :(  Tommarow in the daylight I am going to pull the plugs and do a compression test and see what kind of figures I can get.  If it turns out that I do indeed have a burnt valve the only way I am going to take this is a 242 head and cam ........ i am starting to think this car loves to #%^* me off

I have found the source to my idle problem.  the carb gasket included with the adapter isn't correct and leaves about 1/4 inch of the bottom of the carb open causing one heck of a vacuum leak.  Tomarrow I am going to be hitting the local salvage yards (or sending my father out while I am at work) to get a used gasket.  Nowhere in town has the gasket I need in stock and I don't want to depend on a ride to and from work for more than a day
