Alternate seats ? Seat Painting?
« on: May 29, 2014, 08:41:44 PM »
Been thinking of how to make my interior comfy for my family and dog. I was thinking...has anyone put in any other types of seats , like bucket seats? Is there any other vehicles that would be plug and play?

I don't mind having to rip the rails off of mine to put on a new seat. I have 2 grey XJ seats that I might do it to, but I'd rather find other years that would look good in the car which is all browns/nutmeg.

I put seats in from a 79 Monza, they look great but it was an awful lot of work to  adapt the sliders from the eagle seats to the Monza seats.  I lost some headroom and now that I've driven it for a while I can tell the driver's side seat leans a little to the right so at some point I'm going to take it out  again and lower the brackets on the left side a bit.

When I was in high school, I put generic parts store racing seats in my wagon. I didn't have the option of adapting the original brackets as a friend cut them apart with a torch..... I ended up building my own brackets from scratch using angle iron. I used the sliders that came with the seats and after I finished I wished I hadn't.... The sliders added about 1-2" of height. I don't have a headliner in the car  and I'm not exactly tall, but as it sits, my head rubs on the roof.

I bolted xj seats to the floor. I am the only one who drives it ( its stick) so inever cared about the sliders. I gained some head room. I just shimmed it to level.

I found an old wagon sitting, body shot in areas but I might just take the seats. They are a super light tan to almost an ivory white, but they are almost new (few stains on the vinyl material).

Can the vinyl parts of the seats be painted? They have the cloth centers, I'd like to darken them up a bit. They are in such good condition that I can't pass them up at all.

Stock front seats are nice but I'm always on the prowl for something that would look good and be a good fit and comfy.

Maybe a bit more bucket like and not as thick. The rails are always a relatively easy swap.

I got some interesting seats last night that were in some kind of Pontiac. Not right for my wagon (wrong color/material), but would work in an FSJ.
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!
