727 torque converter ???

I have a 727 trans to put in my 88 eagle. I want to get a new torque converter is there a difference from the 998 to the 727... what should I use?

Yes, you need to use the 727 converter and make sure it matches your transmission as far as lockup or non lockup.

It is from a 1987 Wagoneer. Do you happen to know if that is lockup or not?

It shouldn't be a lockup, but you can tell by checking the centerhole of the input shaft. Less than 2" deep is non-lockup. Make sure you specify Jeep 727 or it will come with a starter ring on it.

Now for my next issue. The new torgue converter I got has a welded on starter ring.I am not sure what is up with that but...Is that the way the Wagoneer was? Can I just cut it off?

They sold you a Dodge torque converter and not a Jeep one. I think it has 4 weld spots but you have to be careful not to grind through to the oil inside and it may be a bit off balance afterwards
